All things ‘FAB’ at Open Labs

One of our key missions here at Open Labs@LJMU is to support individuals, students and micro SMEs in the digital and creative sector.  We help them to identify new and emerging technologies and offer assistance in exploiting these new ideas.

Our first major project will be exploring the world of digital fabrication or ‘fabbing’  – the tools, techniques and processes that can turn your digital designs into physical objects in the real world.

Fabbing is a hot topic right now.  It has been heralded as the beginning of the next industrial revolution and a movement that that will change forever what, how and where we create.

We will be looking beneath the hyperbole to see where the real opportunities lie, what the future holds and, most importantly, how you can experiment with these technologies right now.

Fab Camp?

As part of our exploration of all things fab Open Labs @ LJMU will be hosting the first ever Fab Camp Liverpool at the Liverpool Art and Design Academy over the weekend of Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th October 2010.

So what is a Fab Camp?  Well it’s a 2-day event where you can explore your ideas and get hands on with some of the tools and techniques that will help make and shape the objects of the future.

Whether you consider yourself to be a creative, a tinkerer, a technologist, an entrepreneur or even an enthusiastic knowledge-seeker bring your ideas along because Fab Camp Liverpool is for anyone who wants to make almost anything.

Although we are in the early stages of planning Fab Camp Liverpool we already have some great partners lined up, now we need you.

Help us shape the event … We need your great ideas, your creative skills, your design techniques, or perhaps you just want to participate?  If you want to get involved drop us a line in the comments below and we will be in touch.
